We recently got a taste of Maple Leaf Tavern’s signature Caesar Salad — affectionately called ‘Find The Bacon’ by their Executive Chef Jesse Vallins — and it was impeccable. Jesse and his team add fish sauce to the house made dressing to punch up the imami flavours. The glorious slab of house cured bacon perched atop the hydroponically grown baby romaine lettuces helps too.

This Ontario sour cherry cake with velvety smooth lemon sour cream whip was one of our favorite things from last year’s Summerlicious — and we’re thrilled to see it back for 2018! Hawthorne is a super cool business. For those of you that don’t know, it’s a social enterprise by the Hospitality Workers Training Centre that provides free training and career development for people in need of skills and employment. HWTC trains approximately 300 participants a year at Hawthorne and other industry partner facilities, including unemployed youth and those in receipt of Ontario Disability Supports and Ontario Works.

We love eating at The Chef’s House. It’s like dinner and a show, every time. This student run restaurant has an ever changing menu and gives you a behind the scenes glance at the process behind every dish. One of their appetizer options caught our eye this time around. It’s a Melon Gazpacho with Compressed Cucumber and Feta Cheese… and it sounds like summer on a plate!
