JOB OPPORTUNITY: IT Specialist

Slow Food Toronto (SFT) is a Not-For-Profit organization working to create a community built on Good, Clean Fair Food systems, which are an irrevocable human right. SFT is looking for a person who shares these values and is capable of providing IT support to the organization on its course to changing the relationship of a city of six million people and its access to good, clean, fair food.

Description:
The successful applicant will have extensive experience directly relating to Internet services. He or she will be familiar with Word Press, and a variety of UNIX operating environments including Linux, and Mac OSX, with particular emphasis towards building and administering LAMP environments (including building from source).

Role:

  • General IT support for Slow Food Toronto’s website, e-communications systems and any other IT-related function
  • Creation of new newsletter template to be supported by e-newsletter distribution system
  • Work directly with SFT Team Lead and able to complete all assigned responsibilities within mutually-agreed completion dates
  • Analyze and assess areas of work providing quotes as to working hrs and associated costs required to implement each assigned function
  • Analyze risk to systems and recommend/implement changes as appropriate to the business.
  • Assess network and systems security, ensuring a high level of systems data security is maintained overall on an ongoing basis
  • Provide technical consultation and support to Communications Development Team as required.
  • Perform special tasks and projects, as assigned by SFT.
  • Maintain clear and consistent documentation to be provided to SFT for various technical functions and aspects of the website infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and fix server and network issues related to the website in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Assist Developers on deploying new software to both Production and Development environments.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of 5 years experience including working with various operating systems like OSX / Linux /Windows, MySQL database clustering, Systems security, Backup technologies, maintenance and troubleshooting
  2. Knowledge of Open source development & web applications
  3. Strong, documentation and organizational practices, as well as written & verbal skills
  4. Experience with Website design an asset
  5. Exceptional problem determination and creative problem solving skills
  6. Advertisement rotation and the handling of security certificates, and domain registration.

The successful candidate must be available as needed at a rate of $40/hour, per quoted contract
